This course brings together research, pedagogy, and professional craft to show how reading aloud can transform attention, relationships, and outcomes for every learner. Through practical guidance and lived experience, you will learn not just why reading aloud matters, but how to make it a cornerstone of your teaching. Module 1 covers why reading aloud matters, 2 is about recalling the experience of being read to as a child, 3 focusses on what great reading aloud feels like and module 4 covers choosing the right texts. Module 5 goes into more detail on the craft of reading aloud, 6 is about how to foster effective book talk without making everything into a quiz, 7 covers creating emotional safety through calm, grounded delivery. Finally, module 8 provides more detail about the pedagogy behind reading aloud, why it is beneficial and the course concludes with the final module, all about embedding and sustaining practice. Participants work through the modules in order and have a Reflection Journal to complete which encourages them to think about the core concept addressed in that module, try it out in practice and then reflect on the impact on themselves and their classes.
